About Me

I do not think of myself as an artist, that would be a misuse of the term and an insult to the truly gifted. A more fitting title would be; maker. I do like to make things and my material of choice is wood. I have had a lifelong love affair with wood that really took off in my junior high shop class. One of my first projects was a walnut turned mallet that I still have today. My father was truly skilled and could make or fix about anything, I was fortunate to be under his influence.

Over the years I have remodeled houses, built furniture and restored antiques. Of late my focus has been on fine woodworking. My first love is making boxes but I also enjoy making other useful items.

My greatest pleasure comes from the wood itself, over the years oak, walnut and cherry have been the staples. Looking beyond those to the exotics have added a new dimension to my appreciation of God’s handiwork. The colors, the grain patterns and even the smells are truly amazing. As I expose the inside of a board I realize that I am blessed to be the first to see a truly amazing creation.

Over the years I have also been fortunate to learn some basic wood working skills from some truly gifted woodworkers. I have also been able to gather some tools and equipment that overcome many of my shortcomings. I enjoy pulling it all together and seeing what happens.

I hope you like what you see and would love to share my work with you.

Thanks for stopping by,
Mike
